I used to consider myself one of those people who were bothered by recruiters, irritated by irrelevant messages from strangers. I even interviewed at a couple of recruitment agencies when I graduated from college, but they all reminded me of why I was bothered by it in the first place.
So, how did I end up in the industry you ask?
Two months ago I interviewed at one last agency. And to my surprise, I wasn’t bothered like I had been time and time before. When I met Mat Roche, co-CEO and Founder of Third Republic, he spoke of an agency that was looking to disrupt the current industry. I realized I had found a recruitment agency that understood why I was bothered by recruiters, and more often than not they were bothered too.
Having now spent two months in the industry, specifically within the Salesforce space, it has become alarmingly clear that it isn’t recruiters that are bothersome and irritating, it’s their traditional methods. We are operating within a candidate driven market, and people are not adapting fast enough. With the current skills gap within the Salesforce space, some of the best talent is acting passively in the market and recruiters following traditional methods will continue having a difficult time engaging them.
Now, with the fourth industrial revolution becoming more and more evident, our culture is becoming more dependent on technology. It is actively changing the way in which work, live, and engage with one another. With new advances in technology comes a need adaptation in almost every space but especially within the recruitment space, because candidates are changing how they are behaving as a result of these emerging technology trends. It is clear that their technical skills are in widely in demand, and it becomes obvious that candidates are now the ones with the power. They simply do not want to engage with recruiters when they have become numb to their spamming techniques. It is time for change, and if you do not adapt now then you will be left behind.
