After weeks of planning & excitement (mainly from me!) the MuleSoft Summit London is over for another year!! This year was bigger than ever, with over 2,500 registered attendees. And, with standing room only during Ross Mason’s keynote speech, it didn’t seem like it was too far off that number!
The day got off to a flying start, as we were greeted with a generous goody bag containing enough swag to make you feel like a Mule carting it about all day. The “build your own breakfast” sandwich ensured I was adequately fuelled for the day ahead! The usual suspects were there in terms of the sponsors, known customers & repeat offenders, but it there was an exciting buzz about the whole event as we welcomed so many new faces!
The Salesforce acquisition of MuleSoft earlier this year has undoubtedly made a significant impact on the size & scale of the summit, and it was encouraging to see so many new customers & those who are now considering the product.
Much of the developer community were there and were excited about the chance to take Mule certification exams for free! I am seeing more & more end clients asking me for “rockstar” certified candidates and it is great to see that MuleSoft are doing as much as they can to address some of these current skill gaps in the market – although, personally, I would always argue that hands-on, project experience wins every time.
With over 14 hours of content, the day kicked off with Ross Mason’s keynote speech which focused on 3 main areas including speed and agility through the re-use of APIs. It seems as though there is a data leak from a big organisation every week at the moment and with the recent introduction of GDPR the importance of security was very much emphasised – especially in financial services and surrounding healthcare records etc…. Finally, the closing message was that the application network is not built overnight and evolves over time.
I managed to find some time in between networking and taking silly pictures of myself behind the MuleSoft logo to attend some great talks & presentations by UCAS, Mars, Deloitte, EDM Group & Clarks– all of which had their own twist based on the challenges they encounter in their individual sectors. All of them, however, focused on how they are leveraging MuleSoft technology to achieve amazing things, exemplifying just how far-reaching the potential of MuleSoft is.
The day came to an inevitable close with MuleSoft’s product roadmap for the future and, of course, the moment we had all been waiting for … drinks & networking afterwards!
All in all, the Summit was incredible and once again superbly organised by the team at MuleSoft. With the size and scale, it looks as though it will have to move downstairs at the Excel to accommodate the sheer number of bodies – or will we see it merging with Salesforce’s Dreamforce summit next year!?
I, for one, am really excited about what 2019 holds for the MuleSoft space, and as the community and number of customers grow, we at Third Republic have been scaling and growing with it to ensure we can support those partners and end users with much-needed skills and resource. Please give me a shout if you would like to know more about how we can support you!
