With Salesforce leading the market, and with so much diversity in their tech stack and offering, it’s hard to see anyone matching their capabilities, right?
However, news that Oracle have set their sights on Salesforce with the introduction of CX Unity, may be a cause for concern. CX Unity has been described by Oracle themselves as:
A service for managing customer data that goes beyond the notion of a linear “customer journey” and focuses on integrating sales, marketing and customer service applications.
With the statement made at Oracle OpenWorld customer and partner conference in San Francisco, Oracle are making a bold claim and going toe to toe with Salesforce. One thing is for sure; they’re showing the tech world that they are here to play, and that they want to win!
Oracle certainly aren’t the first tech giant to state their claim to the throne, with Microsoft promising to do so with 365, although they are still – notably – falling short to Salesforce’s market share. With that in mind though, Microsoft recently partnered with Abode and SAP last month and have come out swinging in round 2, so maybe Oracle isn’t the only competitor playing in their space that Salesforce need to watch out for.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming year, and especially what Salesforce will do to bat off the competition. Salesforce are notorious for bringing out bigger and better capabilities and platforms when challenged, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them outwit the competition once again and maintain their strong grip on the market. One thing I know for sure is that it will make for an interesting time in this market, and will be like one of the battles at the end of a transformers movie within the tech world!
I’m sure there are different view points from every side of this but, personally, I anticipate that with the number of partnerships and acquisitions that Salesforce has focused on in the past few months they definitely a few aces left up their sleeve.
The question remains: who will come out on top?? Only time will tell………
