Most businesses out there are embarking on a DevOps journey
This is further reinforced by a recent report from Puppet Labs. The report highlights the reasons that DevOps is a journey worth making and the benefits of adopting this way of working. This study surveyed more than 9,200 respondents from 110 countries, making it one of the largest studies on DevOps and the way it afftcts organisations. Personally, I think the data speaks for itself:
- Traditional Ops are 41 percent more time-consuming overall.
- Traditional Ops spends 21 percent more time putting out fires.
- DevOps spends 33 percent more time on infrastructure improvements.
I think one conslusion we can draw from this is that by using DevOps methodologies and practices you are putting your organisation at a massive technological advantage compared to those who are still using more outdated ways of working.
Another point highlighted by Puppet is that high performing IT organizations have 50 percent lower change fail rates than medium and low performing IT organizations, indicating, again, how integral it is that organisations embrace DevOps. I personally think it will be interesting to see which companys can effectively adapt and which will be left behind in the digital reveloution. Will your organisation sink or swim?
