DevOps has continued to grow over the last couple of years with 2018 seeing the highest level of adoption across industries.
So what should you expect in 2019?
I think you will continue to see a rise in companies fully adopting to the DevOps state of mind and implementing DevOps into their engineering process.
Beyond that though here are the 3 things you can safely assume as fact for the upcoming year.
1) Kubernetes Is Going to Evolve Significantly:
The clear front runner for container orchestration is Kubernetes (k8s). Also, they have created a formidable Open Source community who are extremely active in contributing back to the platform.
2) Increase in the Adoption of Microservices:
DevOps and microservices are going hand in hand. Microservices are independent and hence don’t create any dependencies or break other systems when something goes wrong. Microservices architecture helps companies make deployments and add new features easily.
3) Automation Will Become the Primary Focus:
Zero-Touch automation is the name of the game for the coming year. We are going to see a heavy push towards the automation of almost every repeatable task.
What other things might you expect?
Well, I for one, am excited to see how Machine Learning and AI (ML/AI) will play a role in DevOps. ML/AI has the ability to intuit problems and solve complex data-driven problems that could give engineers an even better understanding of their systems.
Did I miss anything? What do you think 2019 has in store for DevOps and engineering as a whole?
